Sociologist and a theologian, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Policies and Organizations in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Before coming to these studies, awarded by a Fulbright Scholarship and sponsored by the Council for the Science and Technology CONICYT, he taught for ten years philosophy, theology, and social sciences in several high schools in Chile. His research is focused in in-service teacher’s motivation, incentives, and formation, and in the sociology of education. He has published in the International Journal of Sociology of Education, the Catholic Education Journal of Inquiry and Practice, Revista Mexicana de Investigacion en Educacion, and Revista Pensamiento Educativo. Cristobal is a member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits)
Ph.D. candidate in History at Georgetown University. His research has focused in the study of indigenous communities and their relationship with the nation-state through education. Among his publications are the book chapter “Sin Tierras ni Letras,” in Historia de la Educación en Chile, Tomo II, (Santiago: Taurus, 2012) and several articles related with Mapuche education.
He has received financial support from the Graduate School at Georgetown University, The Academy of the American Franciscan History Dissertation Fellowship and the Council for the Science and Technology CONICYT. His dissertation is a comparative- transnational study of indigenous education between Chile and Bolivia in the early 20th century.
